DonDon Langlie


Owner/Manager | Poppler’s Music | Grand Forks, ND

Don Langlie is currently owner of Poppler’s Music, Inc. in Grand Forks, ND. In this position, he manages staff and advertising publications as well as reviews nearly 2,000 new band and choral publications each year. He is an Executive Board Member of the International Music Camp as well as being a Board member of RPMDA. Don also presides as a judge at area music festivals, leads music-reading workshops for regional music teacher organizations, is conductor of the Grand Forks Municipal Band and serves as guest conductor at a variety of band workshops.

He graduated Suma Cum Laude from the University of North Dakota with a Bachelor of Music Degree in 1985. A Master of Music degree in Instrumental Conducting and Wind Band Literature was completed at St. Cloud State University in May of 2001. He was High School band director at both Hazen High School in North Dakota (3 years) and Wadena-Deer Creek High School in Minnesota (7 years). Don and his wife Michelle of 28 years have three children; Vanessa (25), Scott (21) and Jacob (18).

David is the Vice President of National Sales for the Hal Leonard Corporation.  He holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh with emphasis in Music Business and Recording Technology.  He is a past recipient of the NAMM/NAMBI Music Business Award as well as a recipient of the “Student Music Award” presented by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences for excellence in the recording arts.  David’s instrument of choice is the drums and he’s proud to say that he’s still married to his first wife which has helped him to avoid the whole “homeless” issue that surrounds many of his percussive counterparts.

With twenty years in the print industry, Mike Watson has spent the better part of his life playing, studying, selling & generally being immersed in music. After completing a Bachelor of Music in Theory at the University of Toronto, he parlayed his part-time job at a nearby music store into the all-encompassing career familiar to so many in this industry! Since 2008 he’s managed the full-line print music department at Remenyi House of Music, a family business celebrating 125 years in 2015.

Print Music Buyer| West Music| Coralville, IA

Amy Larkin is a Print/Media/General Accessories Merchandise Manager for West Music Company in Coralville, IA. She has been with West Music in several capacities for 15 years. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Luther College, and was a band director in Grand Meadow, MN for three years. Her main instrument is the saxophone, though lately she has been playing a lot more bass guitar. She is currently teaching private bass guitar, clarinet, and saxophone lessons, as well as playing bass in Cover Girl – a Cedar Rapids, IA-based band. Cover Girl plays covers of songs originally recorded by female lead singers and covers many decades and genres. Their varied set list includes a range of artists from Juice Newton to Halestorm. Variety is good, right?

Amy’s other interests include teaching indoor cycling classes, running, helping run a haunted house, crocheting, pet/house sitting, bicycling long distances, and trying to swim.”

Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Jenny studied flute at Marshall University, where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Music Performance with minors in History, Sociology, and Spanish. She continued her education at Ohio State University, earning a Master of Arts in Musicology and gaining teaching experience in music history, jazz, and world music along the way. Jenny joined the Lorenz team in 2008 and became Vice President of Advertising in 2011, leading the company’s print and digital advertising efforts. Outside of the office, you’re likely to find her volunteering for the Dogtors animal-assisted therapy program with her ever-enthusiastic canine partner, hiking, experimenting with DIY projects, or lost in a book somewhere. Jenny and her husband James live in Dayton, Ohio.


Christie SmithChristie 1 Past President

Christie is from Merritt BC, a small ranching town east of Vancouver BC, Canada. She studied clarinet, piano and voice at Douglas College where she received a Performance Arts – Music diploma. In college, she remembers dreaming about working in a music store; now it looks like she’s livin’ the dream!

She began her career in 1987 at Tom Lee Music. In 1992, she joined Ward Music until 2000 when Ward’s was purchased by Long & McQuade Musical Instruments. Currently she is the Events, Advertising and Sponsorship Coordinator for the Long & McQuade, Vancouver.

Christie has attended the RPMDA convention for the last 7 years and considers it to be one of the most meaningful and worthwhile experiences of her life. As a board member, she hopes to make a valuable contribution during her tenure. Christie also is a part time music teacher, songwriter and choral conductor… and now and again she has been known to bring out her bellydancing chops!
