Hal Leonard, the world’s largest publisher of music performance and instructional materials, has announced that Keith Mardak is stepping down as its CEO and Larry Morton will become President and CEO. Mardak will remain with Hal Leonard as Chairman of the Board and act in a consultant role for the foreseeable future.
Under Mardak’s leadership, Hal Leonard has become a world-wide leader in educational methods and repertoire and has secured distribution deals with numerous other publishers and musical gear producers. In addition, Hal Leonard has expanded around the world with offices in Australia, England, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, and more. The company now has nearly 800 employees.
Morton joined Hal Leonard in 1990 and quickly worked his way up to National Sales Manager and Vice President of Sales. Mardak appointed Morton as President of Hal Leonard in 1999, where he has served for twenty years as a leader for the company and an outspoken advocate for the industry as a whole.
On Mardak, who he worked with side by side for nearly three decades, Morton notes “As we get to this next step in Hal Leonard’s history, I think it’s very important for all of us, especially me, to acknowledge the tremendous impact Keith has had not only on Hal Leonard, but on the entire music publishing world and the music products industry. Our success going forward is built on what Keith has done for more than five decades.”
