RPMDA’s 41st convention returns to the sunny south and the city of Atlanta for the first time since 2000. Your board members had the opportunity to experience the city a couple of weeks ago, and we know it’ll make a terrific site for our 2017 gathering.
Our host property is the Hyatt Regency Atlanta, located downtown on Peachtree Street, right in the middle of the action. Built in 1967 and renovated in 2011, it is considered the first ‘contemporary atrium’ hotel and features glass elevators which provide an exciting ride to the 24th floor.
In addition to accommodating all of our convention needs, the complex boasts multiple guest room options, an outdoor pool, 24-hour fitness center, 24-hour convenience store (serving Starbucks beverages), and two eateries, including the outstanding Polaris revolving restaurant featuring fantastic views of the city and great food for a surprisingly reasonable price. The open-concept lobby bar is centrally located, open late, and will certainly become a focal point for after-session socializing. The lobby also has an enclosed connection to the adjacent Peachtree Centre, offering many quick service food choices during the daytime as well as direct access to the MARTA subway – the fastest, cheapest route to/from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
The surrounding area offers a range of restaurants within walking distance, from national chains to craft breweries. Centennial Olympic Park is four blocks west of the hotel, hosting a number of attractions including the World of Coca-Cola, the Georgia Aquarium, and the CNN Centre. The Midtown arts district is approximately eight blocks north, with theatres, museums, the home of the Atlanta Symphony, Piedmont Park, and yet more places to eat & drink.
We’ll have details on coordinated tour events when registration opens, but with much to enjoy in this city, there are plenty of reasons to come early, or stay behind after the convention.
